Work to continue on Kilauea Avenue through the weekend (Jan 19-20)

Roadwork on Kīlauea Avenue between Hualālai Street and Pauahi Street will continue through Saturday and Sunday. Motorists should use Kamehameha Avenue (not Aupuni) to access businesses along Pauahi Street or Ponahawai Street to access businesses along Kīlauea Avenue.

UPDATE: Road resurfacing project closes access to Pauahi from Kilauea Avenue

The traffic restrictions for KÄ«lauea Avenue and Pauahi Street will continue throughout tomorrow, January 18, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. All motorists will not be allowed to access Pauahi Street via KÄ«lauea Avenue.

Road work projects continue in Hilo and Kona

Contractor Yamada & Sons will be working daily on KÄ«lauea Avenue with the exception of holidays. Reed’s Island Bridge will close for repairs Monday, January 14 and reopen October 2013. Road resurfacing along Ka’iminani Drive toward Ahiahi Street continues through January 18.

A bypass was constructed this morning by the contractor at the entrance to South Iwalani Street at West Kawailani intersection for through traffic.  Special Off duty police officers are directing traffic.

The bypass is available during construction hours 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday-Friday.

Restoration of the Kailua Village Seawall along Aliʻi Drive, damaged by the 2011 tsunami, will begin April 23. The 11,000-square-foot Mākālei Fire Station currently under construction in Kona is 94 percent completed. Contractors for the roadwork along West Kawailani Street in South Hilo, will begin mobilizing at the site the first week in May with construction to follow.

Kekuanaoa Street from Kanoelehua to Hinano will be striped Thursday, May 26 through Wednesday, June 1, between the hours of 7:00 A.M. to 3:30 P.M. weather permitting.  The crew will work in the center lane and along both edges of the road.  Motorists are asked to drive slowly and to anticipate short delays.

Earthquake repairs to the culvert in Āhualoa will begin the week of May 16. A bypass route around the culvert above King’s Cathedral and Chapels on Old Mamālahoa Highway will accommodate motorists until the scheduled completion date, the week of June 28. Motorist may use Kapuna Road as an alternate route. The FEMA funded project is estimated to cost $126,011.00.

Road Closure (03-15-11): Alii Drive will be closed between Palani Rd and Sarona Road from 8:30 am and 5:00 pm today.

The Hawai'i Police Department advises the public that Alii Dr, between Palani Rd and Sarona Rd, will be closed today (03-15-11) from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Department of Public Works continues to repair the sidewalk and portions of the road damaged by the Tsunami.
