MEDIA RELEASE

Roadwork is occurring January 16-17 on Kīlauea Avenue at Hualālai Street and Pauahi in preparation for resurfacing starting this weekend. Resurfacing will start from Pauahi, ending at Alenaio Bridge.

Drainage boxes will be installed along Kūkūau January 22. This is expected to take a week, and a half to complete. On street parking fronting, Hilo Floral Designs on Kīlauea Avenue will not be available.

Contractor Yamada & Son is working daily, with the exception of the holiday on January 21 to complete the roadwork, improve the drainage at Kūkūau, and install a solar-powered Beacon crosswalk light on Kīlauea Avenue. Two lanes are available to motorists one in each direction. Special Off-Duty police officers are directing traffic. On street parking may or may not be available.

Roadwork began January 2, 2013. It could be done by the end of February, a month ahead of schedule.
