Hopefully this victim is a member of the gang that has robbed and/or destroyed over 60 homes here in Ocean View, Hawaii, and not just another drug deal gone bad. No one in the subdivision has dared leave their home vacant, since the robberies started some months ago. Not one thing from any of the robberies has been recovered. The “cocoanut wireless” has said many times that the robberies would have to come to a shooting of one of the thieves. It’s the only thing they understand. If this is the case, I feel no sympathy for the victim, and would go to court to have the shooter freed. I am sure many, many other people here feel the same way, and that this event will cease the robberies, and the terrorizing they have caused to so many people and families, for so long.

Its sad. The shooters life was ruined do to him defending his property. From what I have heard the victim / thief was stealing legal medical pot plants and the same thief had been doing this regulary. The home owner is said to have this guy on security cam taking his plants.
In a state where the police dont do much, its even worse in Ocean View. This man was forced to defend his property in a state were non lethal defense, such as taser and stun guns, are illegle. If this man would have called the police I assume no one would show up. I called the police once 3 times over the course of two hours because of a really nastly husband and wife fight next door, no one ever showed up. The Hawaii police gave this man no choice but to shoot this thief, hopefully that is brought up in court.

it is sad that my kids uncle had to die in that fashion -BUT- THE GUY KEVIN ALREADY SEEN HIM ON VIDEO,why didnt he protect his interest and get rid of his marijuana plants that he so called has a license for and deal with it that way.it is only assumed that kevin had a certificate to grow marijuana it is not a fact yet.and to add to dan durgins comment larry was not in a gang and that is a proven fact.kevin could have done it differently and gave him a warning shot or even shot him in his leg but he shot him in his back “TWICE”,now answer me this,if you knew larry like i did would you do it any different,i think so cause now look whose going to jail.He left behind two beautiful children and a granddaughter he never got to meet,he will never get to be that grandfather she will need as she grows.kevin took that away when he pulled that trigger.

  4. saydi l says:

my comment is to derek h. this victim “larry” is not the same thief doing the other robberies that you and all the other people claim.just because larry was caught doesn’t mean a god damned thing.he was an hard worker, great father,he did the best he could now maybe he made this mistake but dont be too fast to judge him, everyone who knew larry loved him.you cant tell me that you never made any mistakes of your own…kevin belongs in jail and i hope he rots there.his children will never get to share anymore memories with him,and his granddaughter will never ever get to meet her grandfather because of kevins stupidity.

  5. I believe it is a tragedy for anyone to lose their life. It is also a tragedy that a friendly, outgoing guy such as kevin would have to feel that in order to protect his property and maybe his life, he would have to take such drastic measure. It is apparent that there is problem with theft in that community. I would have to say there are a lot of criminals that lead two lives. That of a family man, and that of a criminal. Maybe now the criminals in this community will think twice. Someone has to stand up for what is right. Let Kevin out of Jail.

  6. FriendsinAlaska says:

I also believe this is a tragedy for the intruder and my sympathy goes out to his family.
But for anyone that has known Kevin and his family, this is also a tragedy for all of them. They have always been very close.
I knew Kevin and his family when I lived in Oregon,he was very outgoing and nonviolent individual. I feel he had to have felt the situation was life threatening to him and his property or he would have never picked up the gun. He has always been a sincere and caring man.
My thoughts and prayers to Kevin and all his family.
LET KEVIN OUT OF JAIL! SELF DEFENSE IS WHAT I SEE HERE.

The situation is sad and yet a person does have a right to defend his property. I agree he could have aimed for the knee or leg so it is unfortunate that he took a life. It is also too bad that someone would try to steal what is not theirs. Is this the Hawaiian tradition? Anyway we all make mistakes but sometimes they cost us our life.

  12. nagel hardy says:

this has been a family friend of ours for all his life the nagel and hardy family belives that if what if you had to defend your property and a tweeker who he had on tape stealing his legal medical marijana plants and he had to fire into the dark twice with bird shot witch was most likly ment to slow him down or scare him acidentaly hit him

  21. Ricardoh says:

The crazy thing about killing someone instead of wounding them is partially due to the fact that wounded criminals sue.
