Part of Alii Drive closed 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and tomorrow for tsunami clean-up

MEDIA RELEASE

Public Works crews continue to work along the Alii Drive in the area between Sarona Road near Hulihee Palace and the King Kamehameha Kona Beach Hotel. The county has asked that motorists and bicyclists avoid the area today and tomorrow because of heavy machinery working along the seawall.

“We continue to ask for the public’s patience as we complete necessary repairs to Alii Drive and along the seawall,” said Mayor Billy Kenoi. “Closing that portion of the road will expedite the work and make it safer for residents and visitors to enjoy this area.”

The closure will last through 5 p.m. today, and beginning at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow. Alii Drive will be reopened as soon as the repairs to the sidewalk and road are completed.

For more information, call Bobby Command, executive assistant to Mayor Kenoi, at 217-2387.
