A storm low that passed far north of the state generated a large northwest swell that will persist through tonight. Due to the proximity of the low...a mix of long and short period swells will produce rough surf across most north and west facing shores. A high surf advisory remains in effect until 6 am HST Tuesday.

Breaking waves will be 6 to 8 feet across west facing shores of Big Island.

Surf will slowly decline through late today.

Large and rough breaking waves and strong rip currents will occur.

 HIGH SURF ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM HST THIS EVENING.

* SURF...HEIGHTS OF 10 TO 15 FEET ARE EXPECTED FOR NORTH AND WEST   FACING SHORES OF KAUAI AND NIIHAU AND FOR NORTH FACING SHORES OF   OAHU MOLOKAI AND MAUI. SURF WILL BE 8 TO 12 FEET ACROSS WEST   FACING SHORES OF OAHU AND 6 TO 8 FEET ALONG WEST FACING SHORES   OF THE BIG ISLAND.

* TIMING...SURF WILL REMAIN ELEVATED THROUGH TODAY AND MAY NEED TO   BE EXTENDED INTO WEDNESDAY.

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a high surf advisory...which is in effect until 6 am HST Sunday. The high surf warning has been cancelled. Peak heights 6 to 10 feet today lowering to 4 to 8 feet tonight. Surf will continue to slowly lower...but will remain large through tonight.

High surf advisory in effect until Sunday (Jan 23), some beaches closed

A high surf warning remains in effect until 6 am HST Saturday for West Hawaii. Peak surf heights of 15 to 20 feet are expected. Surf will build today before peaking tonight and early Friday.   the swell will remain large into at least Saturday. Damaging surf is expected. Large waves will impact the entire leeward coast of the Big Island...with coastal   erosion and wave run-up possible in coastal areas exposed to the swell.

A very large west northwest swell will affect the state today. The unusual westerly component of this very large swell will produce hazardous conditions for harbors with western exposures not normally susceptible to large swell. Large breaking waves at harbor entrances will produce dangerous conditions for vessels entering or leaving port. Moderate to strong surges within harbors are likely.
