…HIGH SURF ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM HST THIS EVENING…

A HIGH SURF ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM HST THIS EVENING.

* SURF…HEIGHTS OF 10 TO 15 FEET ARE EXPECTED FOR NORTH AND WEST FACING SHORES OF KAUAI AND NIIHAU AND FOR NORTH FACING SHORES OF OAHU MOLOKAI AND MAUI. SURF WILL BE 8 TO 12 FEET ACROSS WEST FACING SHORES OF OAHU AND 6 TO 8 FEET ALONG WEST FACING SHORES OF THE BIG ISLAND.

* TIMING…SURF WILL REMAIN ELEVATED THROUGH TODAY AND MAY NEED TO BE EXTENDED INTO WEDNESDAY.

* IMPACTS…LARGE BREAKING WAVES…STRONG RIP CURRENTS AND LOCALIZED BEACH EROSION WILL OCCUR ALONG BEACHES DIRECTLY EXPOSED TO THIS WEST NORTHWEST SWELL.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A HIGH SURF ADVISORY MEANS THAT HIGH SURF WILL AFFECT BEACHES IN THE ADVISORY AREA…PRODUCING POUNDING SURF…DANGEROUS RIP CURRENTS AND LOCALIZED BEACH EROSION.

…HIGH SURF ADVISORY IS CANCELLED…

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN HONOLULU HAS CANCELLED THE HIGH SURF ADVISORY.

SURF HAS DECREASED BELOW ADVISORY THRESHOLD ACROSS WEST FACING SHORES OF THE BIG ISLAND. THE HIGH SURF ADVISORY IS THEREFORE CANCELLED FOR THIS AREA.

    Just wondering if Hapuna Beach is closed today (1/26/11). Very difficult to find out.

      The high surf advisory was cancelled last night and Civil Defense has not announced any beach closures today so I’m guessing it’s open unless they’re closing it for other reasons.
