The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a high surf advisory for East facing shores of all islands except for Lanai and Niihau until this evening. Surf of 5-8 feet is forecast. A small craft advisory is also in effect until 6 a.m. Sunday (March 27) for waters South of the Big Island and all channels.

The National Weather Service has issued a high surf advisory for East facing shores of all islands except for Lanai and Niihau. The advisory is in effect until 6 a.m. Saturday.

The strong trade winds will continue to bring rough and choppy surf to East facing shores. Rough surf of 6-10 feet is forecast for today lowering to 6-8 feet tonight and 5-7 feet Saturday (March 26).

Beach goers should use caution due to hazardous wave action and strong rip currents.

Wave heights of 10 to 15 feet along North facing and 8 to 12 feet along West facing shores. The swell will continue through early this evening.

The National Weather Service has issued a forecast that a northwest swell produced by a storm near the Aleutian Islands will reach the Hawaiian islands on Wednesday afternoon. The swell may be large enough to require a high surf advisory for north and possibly west facing shores of smaller islands Wednesday evening and Thursday.

The high surf advisory is now in effect until 6 pm HST this evening.

Along north facing shores...surf will be 10 to 15 feet today. Along east facing shores...surf will be 6 to 9 feet today.

Marginally high surf continues this morning...but is expected to subside slowly later today.

Rough and choppy surf will increase the chance for strong rip currents...which can easily overpower even strong   swimmers. Minor coastal erosion is possible along east facing   shores exposed to the north swell.
