On Tuesday, January 24th 2012 NFL Football Players and NFL Cheerleaders will be holding Youth Clinics for Hawai`i Island intermediate and high school students at Kealakehe High School from 3:00–5:30 PM and Wednesday, January 25th 2012, at Keaau High School from 3:00–5:30 PM.  Players and cheerleaders will also visit a local school for an assembly before the clinics.

Governor Neil Abercrombie today announced the release of $2.45 million for various design and management Capitol Improvement Projects (CIP) at Honolulu International Airport.

Honolulu International Airport is the state’s primary transportation hub for local, visitor and business travel throughout the islands and to 42 mainland and international cities.

Kauai police arrest man wanted on Big Island warrants

Police have located 30-year-old Derek S.K. Fontes, who was wanted on two arrest warrants for violating probation and three bench warrants. Fontes, who is being featured this month on “HawaiÊ»i Island’s Most Wanted” was arrested by Kauai police on Kauai and charged with the five warrants after Big Island police received a Crime Stoppers tip.

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has extended the High Surf Advisory for the Kona coast until 6 a.m. Saturday (Jan 14).

Surf is forecast to be five to eight feet along West facing shores of Kona. Beachgoers and swimmers should use caution due to large breaking waves, strong rip currents and wave run-up along low-lying beaches.

Shortly before 1 p.m. a man described as a local male with a dark complexion entered the Keauhou Store in Holualoa and forcibly removed an undisclosed amount of money from the cash register. A 34-year-old female cashier suffered minor injuries but declined medical treatment.
