A 66-year-old Hilo man and a 61-year-old Hilo woman died Saturday (September 3) from injuries sustained in a pedestrian/motorcycle crash on Railroad Avenue at Makalika Street in Hilo.

Responding to a 7:25 p.m. call, Hilo patrol officers determined that the woman exited an unknown vehicle near the intersection of Railroad Avenue and Makalika. The vehicle left the area and the woman, who walked in the north-bound lane, was struck by a motorcycle traveling north on Railroad Avenue.

Average retail gasoline prices in Hawaii have risen 5.4 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.76/g yesterday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 355 gas outlets in Hawaii. This compares with the national average that has fallen 2.9 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.19/g, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Hawaii Island until 8 p.m.

At 4:52 p.m. weather radar and rain gages indicated that heavy rain is persisting over the slopes in the South Kohala and North Kona districts. Gulches crossing Mamalahoa Highway (Route 190) between Puuanahulu and Waimea were at risk of overflowing. Some of these gulches also flow near Waikoloa Village and into Puako. Rainfall may continue for several more hours.
