Average retail gasoline prices in Hawaii have risen 1.3 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.77/g yesterday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 355 gas outlets in Hawaii. This compares with the national average that has fallen 1.8 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.17/g, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

A Puna woman has been charged with 18 offenses in connection with a burglary last week. During the September 3 burglary, power tools, jewelry, household items, personal documents and blank checks were removed from a home on 15th Avenue in the Hawaiian Paradise Park subdivision.

Hawaiʻi Island police are warning the public about a new twist on existing scams.

In the past few days, police in Kona have received five reports of telephone scams in which the recipient is asked to purchase iTunes gift cards in specific dollar amounts and then to await further instructions. In various calls, the funds were being sought for claims of delinquent energy bills, back taxes owed to the IRS, or bail money to keep a member of the recipient’s family out of jail.

Hawaiʻi Island police have identified a female visitor from California who apparently drowned Tuesday (September 6) at 4 p.m. in waters at Pohoiki Beach.

The victim has been identified as 70-year-old Nancy Peacock of Martinez, California.

Police have initiated a coroner’s inquest investigation and have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

During the week of August 29, 2016, through September 4, 2016, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 29 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Seven of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Two of the drivers were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 720 DUI arrests compared with 712 during the same period last year, an increase of 1.1 percent.

A 20-year-old Captain Cook woman died Sunday (September 4) from injuries she sustained in a two vehicle head-on collision on the Hawaiʻi Belt Road (Route 11) just south of the Kamehameha III Highway intersection.

She has been identified as Breanna Fujimoto of Captain Cook.
