Hawaiʻi Island police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the driver and vehicle involved in a hit-and-run accident that seriously injured a pedestrian a week ago Saturday.

About 11 p.m. on March 19, Kaʻū patrol officers responded to a report of a traffic accident involving a pedestrian on Hawaiʻi Boulevard, in the Hawaiian Ocean View Estates subdivision.

Hawaiʻi Island police are investigating a robbery early Tuesday (March 29) in Puna.

A 28-year-old Pāhoa man reported that he was robbed around 3:50 a.m. while he was hitchhiking on Highway 130 in the area of Kaloli Drive. Following the robbery, the victim was able to flee from the car on foot when it pulled over near Makuʻu Drive.

The vehicle is described as a light-colored four-door sedan. It had several occupants.

Hawaiʻi Island police are investigating a property damage complaint at one of the astronomy facilities on the summit of Mauna Kea on Tuesday morning (March 29).

Officers responded to a 9:30 a.m. report of a traffic accident involving a disorderly man at the summit of Mauna Kea. Further reports indicated that the man then attempted to forcibly enter one of the facilities.

As of 1 p.m. Tuesday (March 29) the State Department of Health had reported no new confirmed cases of dengue fever since yesterday. Everyone should be reminded that this outbreak remains active and is not anticipated to be considered over anytime in the near future.

During the week of March 21, 2016, through March 27, 2016, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 24 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Nine of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Three was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 275 DUI arrests compared with 225 during the same period last year, an increase of 22.2 percent.

Big Island detectives are investigating a fatal firearms related incident that occurred Friday (March 25) in Puna.

On Friday at 8:09 a.m., police and Hawaiʻi Fire Department medics responded to a report of a male juvenile who sustained an injury from a BB gun.

Upon their arrival at a residence off of Oshiro Road in Mountain View, medics learned that the victim sustained an actual gunshot wound.  The victim was transported to the Hilo Medical Center in critical condition.

A 22-year-old Hilo man came to the Hilo Police Station on Monday morning at about 1:00 a.m. and reported that he may have been involved in a traffic collision in the area of Route 130 and Kaloli Drive.

Average retail gasoline prices in Hawaii have risen 1.7 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.56/g yesterday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 355 gas outlets in Hawaii. This compares with the national average that has increased 5.6 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.04/g, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.
