Police DUI stats for the week of March 21-27, 2016

During the week of March 21, 2016, through March 27, 2016, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 24 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Nine of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Three was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 275 DUI arrests compared with 225 during the same period last year, an increase of 22.2 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 334 major accidents so far this year compared with 353 during the same period last year, a decrease of 5.4 percent.

So far this year, there have been four fatal crashes on Hawaiʻi Island (one of which had multiple deaths), resulting in five fatalities, compared with three fatal crashes (one of which had multiple deaths), resulting in five fatalities, during the same period last year. This represents an increase of 33.3 percent for fatal crashes.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
