A Kona man is in police custody in connection with a fatal shooting Thursday morning (March 31) in Kona.

In response to a report of a woman with a gunshot wound at a home in the Kona Highland subdivision, officers found the woman unresponsive with a fatal gunshot wound to the head at a home on the 73-1200 block of Mahilani Drive.

The Companies are requesting permission to install smart grid technology for more than 455,000 customers on O‘ahu, Hawai‘i Island and in Maui County. The project will consist of a modern wireless communication network, smart meters and enhanced technology that will upgrade the existing electric grid to be more automated and energy efficient.

The National Weather Service has issued a High Surf Advisory for the west facing shores of Hawaii Island until 6 p.m. this evening.

Surf along west facing shores of Hawaii Island are forecst to be in the 10-12 foot range.

Hawaii County Ocean Safety Officials and parks personnel are reporting high surf and hazardous conditions at some beach parks in the Kailua-Kona area. Peak surf conditions may coincide with the high tides at 10:40 a.m. this morning and 11:15 p.m. tonight.
