An earthquake with the preliminary magnitude of 7.3 occured near Russia at 7:02 a.m. HST on Thursday, December 20, 2018. Based on all available data a destructive pacific-wide tsunami is not expected and there is no tsunami threat to Hawaii.

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.0 occurred in Southern Alaska at 7:29 a.m. HST on Friday, November 30, 2018. Based on all available data there is no tsunami threat to Hawaii from this earthquake. The Tsunami Warning for Alaska has been canceled as there has been no tsunami observed.

Hawaii residents were left in the dark once again by the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency when they went looking for tsunami evacuation maps in preparation during a tsunami watch early Tuesday (Jan 23).
