Hawaiʻi Island police have identified a female visitor from California who apparently drowned Tuesday (September 6) at 4 p.m. in waters at Pohoiki Beach. The victim has been identified as 70-year-old Nancy Peacock of Martinez, California. Police have initiated a coroner’s inquest investigation and have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

HawaiÊ»i Island police have charged the PÄhoa man who was arrested last week following a stabbing in Pohoiki. At 6 p.m. Friday (October 9), 61-year-old Boris Ivanovich Vereshak (previously identified as Boris Yarmolyk) was charged with first-degree assault, third-degree assault and two counts of second-degree assault.
