Firefighters battled a structure fire on 8th Avenue in Hawaiian Paradise Park Thursday morning. An occupant got out of the home on her own. HELCO crews shut-off power to the area with police and fire crews investigating the scene.
According to fire dispatch report the fire was contained to the one story, two bedroom home which was deemed a total loss. Fire/Rescue crews that responded to the 8:05 a.m. alarm were all back in quarters by 11:04 a.m. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The irony of this blog’s report on Thursday’s HPP fire and the state’s newly announced mental health service is palpable! The woman in the video has been released by state mental health personnel repeatedly over the past few years, often after having physically attacked family members (most of whom refuse to deal with her any longer). She is about to be released again, despite what is apparent in this video, and many of us are concerned for the safety of her NEIGHBORS!
Police say they can’t prove she started the fire and her 48-hours of mental observation are up this weekend, meaning she’s to be released again despite having no home or vehicle to use (both were totalled in the fire).
What does an obviously mentally ill person in Hawaii have to do to be humanely treated while that person and the surrounding community are kept safe from the mentally aberrant behavior?
