An autopsy was conducted Tuesday (August 23) on the body of a man found floating off the Hāmākua Coast on August 16.

The cause of death was determined to be drowning.

The man was identified Thursday evening (August 18) as 28-year-old Adam Hartzog, who had no permanent address but frequented the Hilo area.

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a Flood Advisory for Hawaii Island until 6:30 p.m. tonight (Aug 22).

At 3:24 p.m. weather radar showed heavy rain South of Hilo near Hawaiian Paradise Park, Mountain View and Volcano. Rain was falling at a rate of 1-2 inches per hour.

Locations in the advisory include, but are not limited to, Hilo, Hawaiian Paradise Park, Mountain View, Keaau, Volcano, Glenwood, Orchidlands Estates, Hawaiian Acres, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Ainaloa, Kurtistown and Fern Acres.

During the week of August 15, 2016, through August 21, 2016, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 11 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Three of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes.

So far this year, there have been 668 DUI arrests compared with 661 during the same period last year, an increase of 1.1 percent.

Police to hold ‘active shooter’ presentation in North Kohala Saturday (Aug 27)

The Hawaiʻi Police Department will make two “active shooter” presentations in North Kohala on Saturday (August 27). The presentations, which are open to the public by reservation only, will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the North Kohala Inter-Generational Center located at Kamehameha Park.

Average retail gasoline prices in Hawaii have fallen 2.3 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.67/g yesterday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 355 gas outlets in Hawaii. This compares with the national average that has increased 3.7 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.16/g, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

Results of Keoua’s 30th Calvin Kelekolio Long Distance Race Saturday (Aug 20)

The 30th annual Calvin Kelekolio Long Distance Canoe Races were sponsored by Keoua Canoe Club and held at Honaunau Saturday (Aug 20). All races started and finished at Honaunau. The Juniors raced on a three mile course, Women and Mixed crews on an eight mile course, with the Men paddlers racing for 10 miles.

Military convoys to and from Pohakuloa beginning Sunday (Aug 21)

Military service members are scheduled to convoy to and from Pohakuloa Training Area, beginning Sunday. Convoys will travel between PTA and Kawaihae Harbor, Aug. 21-27. Roadways affected include the Daniel K. Inouye Highway, Mamalahoa Highway, Waikoloa Road, Queen Kaahumanu Highway and the Akoni Pule Corridor.

Work continues on the County of Hawai‘i’s highway intersection improvement project this weekend. One lane of Māmalahoa Highway will be closed to traffic from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 20 and Sunday, August 21 to allow Hawaiian Telcom to relocate overhead cables to newly placed utility poles near the intersection of Māmalahoa Highway and Nāpo‘opo‘o Road in Kona.
