An autopsy was conducted Tuesday (August 23) on the body of a man found floating off the HÄmÄkua Coast on August 16. The cause of death was determined to be drowning. The man was identified Thursday evening (August 18) as 28-year-old Adam Hartzog, who had no permanent address but frequented the Hilo area.

Average retail gasoline prices in Hawaii have fallen 2.3 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.67/g yesterday, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 355 gas outlets in Hawaii. This compares with the national average that has increased 3.7 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.16/g, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

The 30th annual Calvin Kelekolio Long Distance Canoe Races were sponsored by Keoua Canoe Club and held at Honaunau Saturday (Aug 20). All races started and finished at Honaunau. The Juniors raced on a three mile course, Women and Mixed crews on an eight mile course, with the Men paddlers racing for 10 miles.
