The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a wind advisory for the summits of Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea above 8,000 feet along with the Saddle Road above 5,000 feet. The wind advisory has also been issued for Kohala, Hamakua, Hilo, Volcano, Waimea, and Waikoloa on the Big Island. The advisory is in effect until 4 a.m. Sunday (May 27).
Winds are forecast to be 20-30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph from the East. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. The road to the summit is open to the public.
A high surf advisory remains in effect for East facing shores of the Big Island until 6 p.m. Monday (May 28). Surf is forecast to be in the five to eight foot range. Oceangoers should be cautious of rough surf and strong rip currents due to the high surf. Localized beach erosion may also be ocurring.
A small craft advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. Monday for all Hawaiian waters and channels.
