The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a High Surf Advisory for the Big Island North and East from 6 a.m. Sunday until 6 p.m. Monday (Jan 2).
Surf is forecast to be in the six to 10 foot range and will increase rapidly Sunday and peak Sunday night.
The high surf can produce dangerous rip currents and cause beach erosion.
A Small Craft Advisory will also be in effect for mariners during this period for most coastal waters of Hawaii.
A very large Northwest swell is expected to arrive Tuesday and is bringing warning level surf to Hawaii.
