Distance-learning teacher ed program at UH-Hilo

MEDIA RELEASE

Applications are currently being accepted for the Spring 2010 Distance Learning-Secondary Teacher Education Program for Success (DL-STEPS) at the University of Hawaii at Hilo.

The application deadline for classified students is Nov. 21, 2009; the deadline for unclassified students is Dec. 21, 2009.

DL-STEPS is a teacher certification program leading to licensing as a middle or high school teacher in the state of Hawaii. The program is designed for post-baccalaureate students who wish to take classes online while they work full- or part-time.

Students will go through six steps to complete the program, including advising, online coursework and field work.

“The Education Department is very pleased to offer this program to working students,” said Dr. Jeannine Hirtle, who leads the DL-STEPS program. “This Web-based program provides students with high quality, integrated, inquiry- and field-based course work that will prepare them to meet the challenges of teaching in a culturally-rich, technologically-changing society.”
