Hawaiʻi Island police are investigating a reported armed robbery Monday afternoon (June 6) in Hilo.

Shortly before 3 p.m., police received a call from a 66-year-old Hilo man who reported that while he was walking in Lokahi Park, he was approached by two masked suspects who brandished firearms, demanded money and forced him into the park’s restroom.  The suspects removed an undisclosed amount of cash from the victim before fleeing the area.  The victim was not injured in the incident, which is being classified as a kidnapping, first-degree robbery and second-degree theft.

At 6:15 a.m., a 27-year-old Hilo man was assaulted near the corner of Keawe Street and Haili Street and his wallet and cell phone were taken.

The suspect is described as a local male, about 5-foot-10, 125-130 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a yellow T-shirt.

The victim declined treatment for his injuries.

Hawaiʻi Island police are investigating a robbery early Tuesday (March 29) in Puna.

A 28-year-old Pāhoa man reported that he was robbed around 3:50 a.m. while he was hitchhiking on Highway 130 in the area of Kaloli Drive. Following the robbery, the victim was able to flee from the car on foot when it pulled over near Makuʻu Drive.

The vehicle is described as a light-colored four-door sedan. It had several occupants.

A 57-year-old man reported that he was walking on Orchidland Drive in the Orchidland Estates subdivision when two men exited a dark Honda four-door sedan, assaulted him and stole his personal belongings. The victim went by private vehicle to Hilo Medical Center, where he was treated for his injuries and released.

Hawaiʻi Island police are investigating a reported robbery early Tuesday morning (March 8) in Puna.

At 1:44 a.m., police responded to Captain’s Drive in Fern Forest after a 55-year-old man with no permanent address reported that as he stopped to assist a stranded motorist, he was robbed of his sports-utility vehicle at gunpoint. The victim was not injured in this incident, which is classified as a first-degree robbery.
