During the week of October 2, 2017, through October 8, 2017, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 16 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Four of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. One of the drivers was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 885 DUI arrests compared with 843 during the same period last year, an increase of 5 percent.

Hawaiʻi Island police are investigating a fatal industrial accident involving a 45-year-old man falling through the roof of a warehouse in the Panaʻewa area yesterday, (October 10).

At 1:42 p.m., officers responded to a business on Kealakai Street to a report of a man who fell approximately 40 feet through a fiberglass portion of a roof to a warehouse he was painting, landing on the concrete floor. The victim, 45-year-old Peter Tosie of Hilo, was an employee of a painting company contracted by the business.

There will be a temporary one-way traffic pattern along a portion of Kapiʻolani Street on Saturday, (October 7).

Between the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., traffic will be allowed to flow in the Puna or southerly direction on Kapiʻolani Street between Hualālai Street to Wailoa Street.

Police locate a man wanted for a sex assault

The Hawaiʻi Police Department would like to thank the public for providing information, tips, and assistance that lead to the apprehension of Ian Andrew Parker. The Hawaii Police Department, Area 2, Special Enforcement Unit (SEU) apprehended Parker in the Captain Cook area. The Area 2 Juvenile Aid Section Detectives are continuing the investigation.

Responding to citizen complaints of drug activity, Hawaiʻi island police arrested a 55-year-old Hilo man at Kealoha Beach Park in Keaukaha yesterday, (October 4).

About 11:45 a.m., officer, and detectives from the vice section along with South Hilo Community Policing Officers made contact with the driver of a Silver Nissan SUV parked at Kealoha Beach Park.

Hawaiʻi Island police are searching for a 17-year-old Kailua-Kona boy who was reported missing. Naython Perry was last seen in Captain Cook on (August 7). He is described as Caucasian, 6-feet, 145 pounds with short brown hair, fair complexion, and brown eyes. Last seen wearing dark colored sweatpants.
