As of 8:45 a.m. Hawaii County Civil Defense reports the roadway has reopened. Fire/rescue crews responded to a 3:36 a.m. alarm Wednesday (Nov 8) to the 47 mile marker of Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) in Pahala for a crash between a large delivery truck and a compact sedan.

Hawaii Island police want to inform you that Waimea Court is now accepting filings for Domestic Violence Restraining Orders.

Ex Parte Petitions for a TRO can now be dropped off at the South Kohala District Courthouse.  Petitioners do NOT have to go to Kona to file. 

If you are a victim of domestic violence and desire to seek a restraining order, the forms are available 24 hours every day at the Waimea police station located at 67-5185 Kamāmalu Street.

During the week of October 30, 2017, through November 5, 2017, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 18 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Two of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. One of the drivers was under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 978 DUI arrests compared with 927 during the same period last year, an increase of 5.5 percent.

Hawaiʻi Island police dispatch received a 911-Emergency Call reporting a structure fire at 06:11 a.m. in Kona this morning, (November 3).

The fire spread from the south side of the two-story residence, but no other surrounding homes were damaged. Upon extinguishing the fire, fire crew members found the body of a male victim within the lower unit of the structure.
