Hawaiʻi Island police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating 33-year-old Alexander Hill who failed to return to the Hawaiʻi Community Correctional Center on (October 2, 2017). Hill is an inmate that had been on a weekly work furlough plan and has violated the terms of his program.

Hawaiʻi Island police are asking the public to continue to be aware and knowledgeable of many types of telephone and internet scams.

Individuals posing as employees of local utility companies and tax officials are calling and threatening to either have the persons utilities turned off for non-payment or threatening an immediate arrest for non-payment of taxes.

Hawaiʻi Island police arrested the remaining suspects that were wanted in connection with a kidnapping incident in Puna.

At 12:31 p.m., (December 30), officers responded to a call of a kidnapping from a Heʻe Street address in Hawaiian Beaches. Witnesses reported that a 31-year-old woman staying at the residence was struck in the face with a tire iron before being forced into the trunk of a sedan at gunpoint. The suspect’s vehicle was described as a maroon 1998 Toyota sedan with a shattered rear window bearing license plate HCD 702.

During the week of December 25, 2017, through December 31, 2017, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 25 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Three of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. Three of the drivers were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 1,160 DUI arrests compared with 1,111 during the same period last year, an increase of 4.4 percent.

Police have re-opened Mamalahoa Highway in Ka‘u following crash

Hawaii Police were investigating a one-car vehicle crash near the area of Ninoole Loop and Hwy 11. A primer colored Ford truck traveling North-bound lost control and ran off the roadway and overturned. The driver was transported to the Kona Community Hospital by helicopter in critical condition. Police are continuing their investigation into the crash.
