During the week of November 3, 2014, through November 9, 2014, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 27 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Seven of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Two were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 1,002 DUI arrests compared with 1,130 during the same period last year, a decrease of 11.3 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 1,339 major accidents so far this year compared with 1,167 during the same period last year, an increase of 14.7 percent.
So far this year, there have been 11 traffic fatalities on Hawaiʻi Island compared with 23 during the same period last year, a decrease of 52.2 percent.
To date, six fatalities were related to drugs (3), alcohol (0), or a combination of both (3).
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
