Puna woman found driving stolen truck is arrested and charged

A Puna woman was sent to jail after being found operating a stolen truck.

On August 25, a Toyota Tocoma pickup truck was taken from a parking lot on Old Volcano Road in Volcano.

Police located the stolen truck in Ainaloa on Monday (September 14) and arrested the driver, 23-year-old Ashley Grammer of Pāhoa. Grammer was also arrested and charged on the strength of two bench warrants for contempt of court. She was taken to the Hilo police cellblock while detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigations Section continued the investigation.

After obtaining a search warrant, detectives recovered a substance resembling crystal methamphetamine from inside the stolen truck.

On Tuesday (September 15), Grammer went to court on the bench warrants and then was taken to Hawaiʻi Community Correctional Center while detectives continued the other investigation.

At 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, detectives charged her with unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle and possessing an imitation substance. Her bail was set at $2,500. She remained at HCCC and was scheduled for an initial court appearance on the new charges on Wednesday.
