The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a wind advisory for Big Island summits until 6 p.m. Sunday (March 1).

Winds on Big Island summits are coming from the west at 30-50 mph with localized gusts to 60 mph.

The strong winds can make driving difficult especially for high profile vehicles. Motorists should use caution while driving. The winds can also forcefully swing doors open or shut so use caution when opening or closing vehicle doors.

The Mauna Kea Access Road is closed to the public above the Visitor Information Station at 9,200 feet.
