Fire/rescue crews responded to a 1:59 a.m. alarm Saturday (July 23) for a structure fire in Kealia, South Kona.

Crews arrived to find a two story home engulfed in flames. Firefighters had the fire under control by 2:30 a.m. and it was declared out at 5:45 a.m.

The 61G lava flow extending southeast of PuÊ»u ʻŌʻō towards the coastal plain on KÄ«lauea’s south flank remains active. Yesterday, the flow was approximately 0.4 miles from the coastal emergency road and 0.45 miles from the ocean.

The man who died Thursday afternoon following an officer-involved shooting has been identified as 36-year-old BJ Medeiros of Keaʻau.

An autopsy conducted Friday determined that he died from a gunshot wound to his torso.
