As of 11 p.m. HST Tuesday (Oct 20) Hurricane Olaf was about 940 miles (1,515 km) southeast of Hilo, Hawaii. Maximum sustained winds have weakened slightly to about 135 mph (215 km/h) with higher gusts. Olaf is moving west northwest at 9 mph (15 km/h).
Olaf is still a powerful Category 4 hurricane.
Hurricane force winds extend 35 miles (55 km) from the center and tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 140 miles (220 km).
Currently there are no watches or warnings for Hawaii for Hurricane Olaf but large swells generated by Hurricane Olaf will build along east facing shores of Hawaii Island over the next couple of days.
A high surf and small craft advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service.
