2014 Lavaman Keauhou Cancelled
I recently had to make a very difficult decision regarding Lavaman Keauhou for 2014. Several factors have contributed to my decision to cancel the November 2014 Lavaman Keauhou.
After 5 years of attempting to come up with a course that is both safe and community friendly, I realize that until future road construction is completed, Kona Country Club is reopened, and improvements and repairs at Keauhou Bay completed, I will be fighting an uphill battle.
The expenses of the current bike course and the requirements necessary to make it as safe as possible without creating a total gridlock for the community, create a financial hardship that the race cannot sustain.
I love this event and this was a difficult decision and I will definitely re-look at it in the future as changes occur, but for 2014, it just is not feasible.
Aloha
