Lavaman Keauhou kicks off 7:30 a.m. Sunday, with more than 500 triathletes lining up to test themselves on the famed Kona Coast.
This year’s race is a little later it the year, partly due to weather concerns and partly due to logistical issues.
Whenever and wherever they race, triathletes just relish the challenge. Lavaman Keauhou includes a 0.9-mile swim, 26.6-mile bicycle ride and 6.2-mile run that starts 7:30 a.m. Sunday at Sheraton Kona Resort and Spa at Keauhou Bay.
Also this year, prize money is up for grabs: 1st – $1,000; 2nd – $750; 3rd – $500.
For spectators, shuttles will run 5:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. from Keauhou Shopping Center.
