The moon turns full tonight at 9:30 p.m. Sunday (Jan 8) over Hawaii. The King Kamehameha I statue stands in the moonlight in Hilo.

There are four well known statues of King Kamehameha I: The original King Kamehameha I statue is in Kapaau, Kohala which was originally commissioned for Honolulu but was lost at sea then recovered. The statue in Honolulu at the Judiciary building (the statue was a replacement for the original lost at sea). The statue in Hilo pictured above and a statue in the U.S. Capitol.

There is a fifth statue of separate design by Herb Kane which is displayed at the Grand Wailea Resort in Maui.

Clear skies and mild conditions in Hilo make for beautiful viewing conditions of the full moon. The next full moon will be on February 7, 2012. Photo by Baron Sekiya | Hawaii 24/7
