The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a Flood Advisory for the Big Island until 5:30 p.m.

At 2:30 p.m. weather radar showed several areas of heavy rain developing over leeward and interior portions of the Big Island. The weather system is nearly stationary. The advisory includes, but is not limited to: Kailua-Kona, Honaunau, Milolii and Pohakuloa Training Area.

People should stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to flooding. Ponding of water and reduced visibility will make driving hazardous. Do not try to cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle or on foot.

The advisory may be extended past 5:30 p.m. if heavy rain continues.
