MEDIA RELEASE
St. James’ Episcopal Church, Waimea, has announced Father David Stout who will become priest-in-charge Oct. 1.
Stout will celebrate his first Sunday at St James’ at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 2.
That Sunday is also the annual Blessing of the Animals. The liturgy for this service honors St. Francis and his special affinity for animals. In the tradition of our annual Blessing of the Animals, all creatures great and small are invited.
A blessing of each animal will occur outside the church immediately following the service. All animals are asked to be on a leash and house trained animals are welcome to accompany parishioners into the church.
Originally from rural Indiana, Stout comes to St James’ after serving the past seven years as rector of Trinity Church in Asbury Park, N.J. Prior to that he served for four and a half years as the Associate Rector for Member Incorporation at St. Bartholomew’s Church in midtown New York City.
He was ordained at St. Paul’s Cathedral in Beaufort, N.C., at the bottom of the Outer Banks, where he served three years as the Curate.
Stout received his Bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Ball State University. He completed his seminary training at the Divinity School at Duke University in Durham, N.C. and met his diocesan requirement of Episcopal studies by serving a year as the seminarian intern at Canterbury Cathedral in England.
Stout said he believes worship can be reverent as well as joyful, welcoming and accessible, especially to children and youth. He believes worship should encourage people in their daily lives and sends them out lifted up, empowered by the Spirit to meet the week ahead.
Stout and his partner of 15 years, Bobby Clement, together have three children and two grandchildren.
In a letter to the families in the church, Stout said, “I could not be more excited – and humbled – to be coming to serve Christ with you. I see the path ahead as full of opportunities and possibilities, building on the beautiful sense of ohana I experienced when I visited St. James’.
St. James’ Sunday service is at 8:30 a.m. (Eucharist) followed by Coffee Hour. Additionally, a Centering Prayer group meets 5-6 p.m. Mondays in the Church office, Choir Rehearsals are 6-7 p.m. Tuesday’s in the Church and Bible Study will be starting in the coming weeks.
