Jim Cooney has taught jazz, tap, and musical theater in numerous master classes and audition workshops across the world, and he has established himself as one of the most popular theatre dance faculty members at BDC.
The New York Times profiled his class in its Theatre and Dance sections and praised his class for training dancers with “audition must haves: character, motivation, and endurance.”
Students of his have gone on to win leading roles on Broadway and national tours in shows such as Rock Of Ages and A Chorus Line, while cast members from over 30 Broadway shows and tours including Wicked, Mamma Mia, The Lion King, and 42nd Street attend his classes as part of their continual training.
Besides Broadway performers, his classes also attract a wide spectrum of students consisting of former “American Idol” contestants, international models, and actors from countless movies and television shows.
Celebrities have sought out his teaching as well, from coaching Katie Couric on how to lindy hop to being asked by Rosie O’Donnell for private dance classes, and he was part of the team rehearsing MTV’s “Rich Girls” star Ally Hilfiger on her Broadway debut.
