Fire crews continue mop-up operations Saturday (Feb 13) at the Waikoloa brush fire on the Kona side of Waikoloa Road at the 9.5 mile marker.
There are several areas that crews are avoiding due to possible unexploded ordinance in the area.
Roadways are open and personnel will continue to monitor the fire scene.
UPDATED MEDIA RELEASE (2/11/10 10:32 p.m.)
Hawaii County Civil Defense now reports that the police have reopened Waikoloa Road to traffic after the closure due to a brushfire today. The brushfire area at the 9.5 mile marker of Waikoloa Road is surrounded by fire breaks and crews will be monitoring the area.

The Hawaii Fire Department is fighting a brush fire located on the Kona side of Waikoloa road near the 9.5 Mile Marker. Waikoloa road is closed between Waikoloa Village and the Highway 190 junction. No structures are threatened at this time. We will inform you if conditions change.
