The state is conducting a seal count Saturday, Oct. 17 and need volunteers along the Kona Coast.
Among the areas still needing volunteers are (starting in the north):
* Zone 2: Keawaeli Bay, coast along Upolu Point Rd
* Zone 3: Honoipu Landing, Holoana Bay
* Zone 7: Kiholo Bay (Hike in), Kukio Beach, (near Four Seasons), Kahuqai Bay (in front of Kona Village Resort), Kekaha Kai State Park (Makalawena Beach, Mahai ula Bay – requires a 1.5 mile rugged road drive)
* Zone 8: Wawaloi Beach, Pinetree Beach (need 4×4), Honaunau Harbor Beach (also called Alula Beach), Old Kona Airport State Park
* Zone 9: Ali i Drive (entire coast from King Kamehameha Hotel to Outrigger Resort), White Sands Beach, Kahalu u Beach Park, Keauhou Bay
* Zone 10: Pebble Beach, Kealakekua Bay, Manini Beach, Napo opo o Beach Park, Honaunau Bay and National Historical Park (and surrounding area)
