The Waikupanaha ocean entry remains active, as does a new ocean entry near Kupapau that started late last week.Â
Though a deflation/inflation (DI) event at Kilauea’s summit Wednesday and Thursday may have slightly perturbed the flow of lava through the lava tube, lava flows are still active on the coastal plain inland from the new Kupapau entry.
At Kilauea’s summit, the one-year-old vent within Halemaumau Crater continues to emit elevated amounts of sulfur dioxide gas, resulting in high concentrations of sulfur dioxide downwind. Lava remains just out of sight more than 100 yards below the vent rim.
