Contaminated water at Alaialoa and Kaohaoha Gulches in Ookala

The Hawai‘i Department of Health (DOH) is warning the public to stay out of Alaialoa and Kaohaoha Gulch below Mamalahoa Highway in Ookala, Hawai‘i. Stormwater within both gulches may be contaminated with animal waste due to wastewater spills from the Big Island Dairy facility.

Sewage spill closes waters near Kaipalaoa Landing in Hilo Bay

A sewage spill has forced the closure of recreational activity in Hilo Bay at the shoreline near the Wailuku River and Kaipalaoa Landing Monday (July 10). A broken sewer line leaked wastewater into a storm drain at the corner of Waianuenue Avenue and Kinoole Street.

Hilo bay access remains closed Tuesday (April 4) due to wastewater spill

This is a Civil Defense sewage spill information update for Tuesday April 4 at 10 a.m. As a result of yesterday’s sewage spill that entered Wailuku River, Hilo Bay and all beach parks within the break wall area are closed.
