Hepatitis A case verified on Hawaii Island at Waikoloa restaurant

The Hawaii State Department of Health (DOH) has confirmed a new case of hepatitis A infection in a food service employee on Hawaii Island. The employee has a history of exposure on Oahu and worked at the fast food and catering restaurant, Sushi Shiono Waikoloa.

Police are searching for a man wanted on warrants, may be armed and dangerous

Hawaiʻi Island police are searching for a 22-year-old Waikoloa man who is wanted on bench warrants. Luka Kekoa Mossman is wanted on three counts of contempt of court. He is also wanted for questioning in connection with several terroristic threatening cases. He is described as 5-foot-8, 185 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

The County of Hawaii Department of Environmental Management announces that the Puuanahulu Landfill in West Hawaii will be closed for the remainder of Thursday (March 10), due to heavy smoke from a smoldering fire at the green waste processing site. The fire is under control and will be monitored through the night. Puuanahulu Landfill is expected to reopen tomorrow at the regular time.

Oahu-based service members are scheduled to convoy from Kawaihae Harbor to Pohakuloa Training Area between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., and between 6:30 p.m. and 10 p.m., Oct. 17-24. Convoys will use Akoni Pule Corridor, Queen Kaahumanu, Waikoloa Road, Mamalahoa Highway, and the Daniel K. Inouye Highway.

An autopsy conducted Monday (October 12) has determined that a man found floating Sunday (October 11) in waters at Anaehoʻomalu Bay in Waikoloa died from a medical condition while swimming.

He was identified through fingerprints as 49-year-old Jurgen Essig of Kirchheim unter Teck, Germany.

Hawaiʻi Island police are investigating a possible drowning Sunday (October 11) at Anaehoʻomalu Bay in Waikoloa.

In response to a 12:59 p.m. report, South Kohala officers  learned that a concerned citizen had pulled the unknown man to shore and attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation with another bystander. Fire Department personnel arrived but were unable to revive the man.

Power outage affects about 2,720 customers in the Waikoloa area Tuesday (Sept 29)

Hawaii Electric Light Company reports a power outage at about 8:30 p.m. to approximately 2,720 customers in the Waikoloa, Waikoloa Village and Keamuku areas of Hawaii Island. Power was fully restored by 10 p.m.
