A 59-year-old Hilo man reported that an unknown person put a substance into the gas tank of his pickup truck, causing $24,000 in damages. The tampering occurred sometime between January 16 and January 20 while the truck was parked in front of a business on Wiwo’ole Street. The victim is offering a $5,000 reward.

Big Island police are investigating vandalism at Hilo Union School. An unknown person or persons damaged the walls of Building A and the library with graffiti sometime between 9 p.m. Wednesday (February 2) and 6 a.m. Thursday (February 3). Police have classified the case as criminal property damage.
