However - earthquakes of this size sometimes generate local tsunamis that can be destructive along coasts located within a hundred kilometers of the earthquake epicenter. Authorities in the region of the epicenter should be aware of this possibility and take appropriate action.

7.2M quake reported in Aleutian Islands, no tsunami threat to Hawaii

According to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center there was an earthquake of 6.6 magnitude at the Chile-Bolivia boarder region at 6:36 a.m. HST Monday (June 20).

Based upon all data a destructive pacific-wide tsunami is not expected and there is no tsunami threat to Hawaii.

Hawaiian Airlines members of the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l. (ALPA) have donated $14,500 to assist victims of earthquake and tsunami disasters in Japan, the latest outpouring of charity from a pilot group with special ties to Asia.
