The WEA portion of the test commences at 8:18 a.m. HST and the EAS portion follows at 8:20 a.m. HST. The test will assess the operational readiness of the infrastructure for distribution of a national message and determine whether technological improvements are needed.

Puna Geothermal Venture (PGV) will be pressure testing one of the plant’s safety valves with nitrogen and only nitrogen. Nearby residents may hear the valve opening and releasing the nitrogen several times until about 1:45 p.m. This is a routine testing procedure. The Emergency Alert System (EAS) scheduled for Wedensday (Nov 9) is a national alert and warning system established to enable a regional or nationwide alert to address the American public in all 50 states and several territories (additional territories will be capable of receiving EAS messages soon) during emergencies.
