Bruce Atkinson will step down as University of Hawaii at Hilo volleyball coach effective Tuesday, February 23 according to UH Hilo Director of Athletics Dexter Irvin.

Atkinson was named coach on April 2, 2007 and made an immediate splash by turning a struggling program into a West Region powerhouse.

In session three of the Auto Service Nanook Classic, Hawaii-Hilo bested the Alaska Nanooks to claim the classic title by the score of 3-2 in a thrilling match.  In the earlier game, Rockhurst cruised by Urbana 3-0 to secure their first win of the tournament.
 
In the early game Rockhurst used only three games to win their first game of the classic by the scores of 25-15, 25-10, and 25-10.  Rockhurst hit .438 as a team and had ten serive aces.

The University of Hawaii at Hilo ran through Urbana  College in taking a 3-0 victory in the Nanook Classic hosted by the University  of Alaska Fairbanks

Set scores were 25-11, 25-10 and 25-10.
  
The dynamic trio of Josimara Pinheiro, Fabiane Seben and Morgan Bonney continue to lead the Vulcans. Pinheiro tallied 13 kills on 21 attempts with two errors for a .524 attack percentage. Although she had one led kill, Seben didn’t have an error on 18 tries for a .667 hitting average. Yet, Bonney tallied only 11 kills but that was on 13 tries with only one error for a .769 hitting percentage
