Department of Defense studies have concluded that air conditioning accounts for 30-60% of its total facility energy expenditures. Switching from fossil fuels to solar heat will help the DOD to meet is aggressive renewable energy targets. The demonstration project at Davis-Monthan AFB is scheduled for completion in March 2012.

West Hawaii Civic Center to be powered by 100 percent solar energy

Mayor Billy Kenoi will officially mark the start of solar power at the West Hawai’i Civic Center (WHCC) on Tuesday, August 2, at 3:30 p.m. when he turns on the 250-kilowatt solar photovoltaic project at the new County facility. This will convert the 80,000-square-foot complex to 100-percent solar power.

Parker School installs 7kW photovoltaic system

On March 21, Parker School in Waimea took a leap into sustainable energy when they installed 30 solar panels on the lower school roof. The photovoltaic system produces about 7,000 watts of energy.
