Due to very high fire danger on Mauna Loa, park officials have closed Mauna Loa Road at the gate near KÄ«pukapuaulu parking area until further notice. Non-motorized day use such as hiking and bicycling will be permitted, and backcountry camping on Mauna Loa is allowed with a permit.

Police ask motorists to avoid West Kawailani Street between Mikihala & Kehaulani Street due to a down utility pole resulting from a single vehicle crash. Kawailani Street remains closed and is expected to last throughout the rest of the day. Another update will be made at about 4 p.m. Please use alternate routes.

The Hawai’i Police Department reports that Kuakini Hwy, from the Palani Road to the Kaiwi Street intersections in Kailua-Kona is now open. This roadway was closed due to a suspicious device being located, this device has been properly removed and addressed. The Hawai’i Police Department thanks the public for their patience and understanding.
