HawaiÊ»i Island police are investigating a possible drowning over the weekend in the South Kohala District. At 9:35 a.m. Sunday (December 28), South Kohala officers responded to report of a male swimmer in distress at Wailea Beach in PuakÅ. A kayaker had found the swimmer motionless in the water and had taken him to shore.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has evaluated the 3.7 magnitude earthquake in West Hawaii Friday afternoon (June 15) and has determined that no tsunami threat is expected. The temblor struck at 2:18 p.m. off the Kona Coast.

Residential green waste collection will change from Saturdays to Sundays. The last Saturday collection will be March 31, 2012 during the hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. On Sunday, April 1, 2012, and on Sundays thereafter, green waste will be collected during normal operating hours, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

A 69-year-old woman died Monday (June 21) from an apparent drowning in waters along the South Kohala Coast. The victim, who was vacationing with family on the Big Island, has been identified as a Gloria Graf of Glendale, California.
