Pi‘ihonua Gym in Hilo closing for renovations Monday (March 17)

The Hawai‘i County Department of Parks and Recreation will be closing Pi‘ihonua Gymnasium starting Monday, March 17, so it can renovate the popular Hilo facility located within Gilbert Carvalho Park. Pi‘ihonua Gymnasium is expected to be reopened at the end of May.

County announces park maintenance closure schedule for 2013

The County Department of Parks and Recreation has announced the general maintenance schedule for, ‘Āhalanui Park, Isaac Hale Memorial Park, Kahalu‘u Beach Park and Spencer Park at ‘Ōhai‘ula Beach for calendar year 2013. These periodic short-term closures are necessary to accomplish larger scale maintenance activities without putting the public at unnecessary risk or inconvenience.

The County of Hawai‘i Department of Parks and Recreation has temporarily closed Hilo’s Walter C.K. Victor Baseball Complex to perform annual maintenance work.

Following a busy summer season that saw the return of professional baseball to Hilo, the three ball fields are receiving new sod and being manicured in preparation for the 2012 Poi Pounder Baseball Tournament to be held in November.

County adds addition parking at Hilo’s Carvalho Park

The County of Hawai‘i Department of Parks and Recreation announces that on Thursday, Aug. 16, it will reopen the recently constructed upper parking lot at Hilo’s Gilbert Carvalho Park. Located mauka of the park’s baseball field, the new lot provides nearly an acre of safe, off-street parking for the public’s use.

The office, located in the West Hawai‘i Civic Center, will reopen at 8 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 16.
