Hawai‘i Electric Light reports that about 4,600 customers in various parts of Hawai‘i Island experienced power interruptions caused by heavy rain, lightning and breezy weather conditions that are impacting the state of Hawai‘i.
 
As of early Tuesday afternoon, about 250 customers are without power in Kailua-Kona, lower Puna, Volcano, Ka‘u, and along the Hāmākua Coast.

Hawai‘i Electric Light announces a scheduled power outage that will affect customers in North Kohala. The outage will be from 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 21, to 6 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 22, 2017.
 
This temporary outage is necessary to allow Hawai‘i Electric Light personnel to safely perform maintenance and upgrade equipment to improve system reliability. The affected communities are Hawi, Kapa‘au and Halaula, as well as customers along Kohala Mountain Road between mile marker 6 and mile marker 9.

Power outage in Waimea affects 1,790 customers

A power outage was reported in Waimea at 9:30 p.m. which affected about 1,790 Hawaii Electric Light customers between Waimea Center and Lalamilo Farmlots. As of 10:20 p.m. HELCO reports power restored to the majority of their customers and they are continuing to make repairs to return power to all.

HELCO says it should have enough power to avoid rolling outages tonight

Hawai‘i Electric Light does not anticipate a need for rotating power interruptions during tonight’s peak use period. Last night, rotating outages lasting about 20 to 30 minutes were necessary for about 26,000 of its customers due to a shortage of power generation when several generators experienced unanticipated problems.
