Police are searching for a Naalehu man wanted on a bench warrant

Hawaiʻi Island police are searching for a 25-year-old man who is wanted on a bench warrant for violating probation. Logan Kahele Bishop of Nāʻālehu is also wanted for questioning in connection with a robbery in Ocean View on June 9. He is described as 5-foot-10, 160 pounds with dark brown hair and brown eyes.

The Hawaii Fire Department reports that the runaway brush fire in the Green Sands Subdivision in Ka‘u continues to burn however is 50% contained at this time.   

Fire and emergency personnel are on scene and working to extinguish the fire and will remain on scene throughout the night. Residents are allowed to return to their homes however advised to expect smoky conditions throughout the night.

Hawaiʻi Island police are searching for a 65-year-old Nāʻālehu woman who was reported missing. Maffriette Silk was last seen in Kona on February 5 wearing a white leather jacket and a beige dress. She has a medical condition that requires medication.

Brushfire closes Highway 11 near Naalehu Wednesday night (Dec 19)

Fire/rescue crews responded to a 9:26 p.m. alarm Wednesday (Dec 19) to a brushfire near the 63 mile marker of Highway 11. The fire burned in pasture land on the makai side of Highway 11 which was shut down for about three hours during firefighting operations. Trade winds in the area were at 20-35 mph.

KAHU 91.7 FM radio in Pahala, Hawaii received FCC (Federal Communications Commission) approval on December 12, 2012 to dismantle its last existing tower site in Naalehu. The antenna and equipment was reinstalled successfully at the station.

About 1,000 HELCO customers experience power outage Sunday (Dec 16)

Hawaii Electric Light Company (HELCO) previously announced that HELCO customers in Pahala and Naalehu areas experienced a power outage. HELCO crews have identified an issue in our Punaluu substation and are working to address the issue. Switching has been performed and all customers have been restored as of 12:45 p.m.
